1. Who we are
Abby Video LLC ("we") makes the abby. and Abby Monitor and runs abbyvideo.com. Contact us at [email protected].
2. The website
- We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't set cookies of our own.
- The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver and protect the site. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie.
- The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when a page loads.
- The contact form doesn't send anything to us. It opens your own email app with a message for you to send.
- If you email us, we receive your email address and message. Mail to abbyvideo.com addresses is forwarded to our Gmail account (Google).
3. Buying a license
Checkout is run by Stripe (Stripe Managed Payments), our Merchant of Record. Stripe collects your name, email, billing details, country and payment information to process the payment and handle tax. We don't receive your full card details. Stripe's privacy policy applies to what it collects.
From each order we receive your name, email address, the product you bought and an order number. When you activate your license code, the abby. sends us the code and your Mac ID. A Mac ID is a code the abby. derives from your Mac's hardware. It identifies the computer, not you.
4. Making and sending your key
Our license system (running on Cloudflare) uses your order details to make a license code and email it to you through our email provider. When you activate, it locks the code to your Mac ID and returns a key. It keeps a record of each code: your name and email, the product, the order, the Mac ID it was activated on, and when it was activated and ends. We use it to avoid sending duplicate codes, to stop codes being shared, and to help you if you lose a code or change Macs.
5. The abby. (Mac app)
- The abby. has no accounts and sends nothing to us during normal use. Your license is checked on the Mac itself.
- Your recordings, audio, slates, notes, chats, viewer names and settings are stored on your Mac and drives you choose. We never receive them.
- With your permission, the app uses your Mac's cameras, capture devices, microphone or audio inputs and local network, only to do what you ask (monitor, record, share to approved devices, control routers).
- Crash reports: if the app crashes, it can prepare a report (app version, Mac model, macOS version and a technical log). It is only sent if you choose to send it, by email from your own mail app.
- If you use features like Email clips or Export, the app sends files only where you tell it to.
6. Abby Monitor (iPad and iPhone)
- Abby Monitor has no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking. We run no servers for it.
- Everything it sends goes only to the Mac running the abby. that you join, normally over the set's own Wi-Fi: the name you type, a device key, and any messages, notes, reactions, take requests and (for admins using TALK) your voice.
- Live picture and sound are encrypted end to end between that Mac and your device. Group chats are encrypted on each device. The set's Mac relays them and can read a group only while the operator is a member. Messages and group chats delete themselves after 24 hours, on the Mac and on every device.
- Abby Monitor doesn't record video or sound. Stills you choose to grab are saved to your Photos (add-only access).
- Permissions: Local Network (to find the set's Mac), Microphone (only while an admin holds TALK), Photos add-only (stills) and Face ID (unlocking after a hand-off; handled by iOS). Each is optional.
- Crash details are passed to the set's Mac. Its operator may choose to email them to us.
- Demo mode works entirely on your device and sends nothing.
7. Data held by productions
What the set's Mac keeps about you (your viewer name and notes; chat messages, which delete themselves after 24 hours) is controlled by that production, not by us. To have it removed, ask the production's video assist operator. See On-Set Content & Confidentiality.
8. How we use information
- To sell and deliver licenses and keep records of them.
- To answer your emails and provide support.
- To fix bugs, using crash reports you choose to send.
- To meet legal, tax and accounting requirements, and to prevent fraud and abuse.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.
11. Requests from authorities
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that the law requires it, such as a valid subpoena, court order or search warrant, or to protect someone's safety, our rights or our users. Where the law allows, we'll tell the affected person first. We can only provide what we hold: we never have productions' footage, audio, notes or group chat contents. Send legal requests to [email protected].
12. How long we keep it
- Orders and license records (name, email, product, order number, license code, Mac ID, activation and end dates): for the license and then up to seven years, for tax, accounting and fraud prevention.
- Emails with us: up to three years after the last message, unless we need them longer for a legal claim.
- Crash reports you send: up to one year, or less once the bug is fixed.
- Website technical data: kept by Cloudflare for short periods under its own policies. We keep no website logs of our own.
- Abby Monitor and the abby.: we hold nothing, because that data stays on the set's Mac and devices.
When a period ends we delete the information, or keep it only in a form that no longer identifies you.
13. Your privacy rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, get a copy of it, correct it, or delete it. We won't charge you or treat you differently for asking.
Residents of New Jersey (New Jersey Data Privacy Act), California (CCPA, as amended by the CPRA) and other U.S. states with similar laws have these rights by law, plus the right to opt out of the sale of personal data, targeted advertising and profiling. We don't do any of those. We honour these rights for everyone, whether or not a particular law applies to a business our size.
California residents: in the last 12 months we collected identifiers (name, email, Mac ID), commercial information (what you bought) and, if you sent one, technical crash information, for the purposes in section 8, from you and from Stripe. We disclosed them only to the service providers in section 9. We don't sell or share personal information and have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing data of anyone under 16. We don't use sensitive personal information.
14. How to make a request, and appeals
Email [email protected] from the email address on your order, and say what you're asking for. To protect you, we'll verify the request by matching it to that email and, if needed, your order number or license code. An authorised agent may make a request for you with your signed permission.
We'll reply within 45 days. If we need more time, we'll tell you why, and we can take up to another 45 days where the law allows.
If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying with "Appeal" in the subject within 60 days. We'll answer the appeal within 45 days and explain our decision. If you're still unhappy, you can contact your state attorney general (in New Jersey, the Division of Consumer Affairs).
15. If you're in the EU, UK or Switzerland
Abby Video LLC is the controller of the personal information described in this policy. We rely on these legal bases: contract (to sell, deliver and support your license), legal obligation (tax and accounting records), legitimate interests (preventing fraud and key sharing, and improving our products) and consent (crash reports you choose to send, which you can withdraw).
Your information is processed in the United States. Where the law requires it, transfers rely on our providers' safeguards, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK Addendum and the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where a provider is certified.
You also have the rights to restrict or object to processing and to data portability, and you can complain to your local data protection authority. We'd appreciate the chance to help first.
16. Children
Our products are professional tools and aren't directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where that applies). We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
17. Security
We use encryption, collect as little as we can, and keep our signing key and service credentials in encrypted secret storage. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. See our Security page, including how we handle breaches and how to report a vulnerability.
18. International users
We're based in the United States. If you use our products from elsewhere, information we receive may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate.
19. Changes
If this policy changes, we'll post the new version here with a new date. If a change is significant, we'll also say so on the site before it takes effect.
